Russell is the Media Manager at NPC and is responsible for building NPC’s reputation with journalists, commentators and opinion-leaders, and for maintaining the public face of its think tank and consultancy work.
Before joining NPC in 2014, Russell was Communications and Public Affairs Officer at Asylum Aid. He led the charity’s strategic work on influencing the media, politicians and officials, as well as its social media and marketing output. He provided oral and written evidence at parliamentary select committees, arranged and conducted media interviews for national TV and radio, and published his own original research, Dividing Lines: Asylum, the media, and some reasons for cautious optimism.
Russell previously worked as a consultant media advisor and trainer for clients including Oxford Research Group, Corum Children’s Legal Centre and The Bridge. Before that, he supported Jenny Willott MP on a wide variety of constituency casework – from immigration policy, to benefits right and housing provision – and taught English literature to undergraduate students at the University of Cambridge.
